HEWILLNOTDIVIDE.US is a live-streamed durational artwork by Luke Turner that ran continuously for four years, from 20 January 2017 until 20 January 2021.
Commencing at 9:00 am EST on 20 January 2017, the day of the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States, the public was invited to deliver or respond however they wished to the words “HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US”, which were painted above a wall-mounted camera outside the Museum of the Moving Image, New York.
The participatory performance would be live-streamed continuously for four years, 24 hours a day, for the entire duration of the presidency. In this way, the artwork acted as a show of resistance and insistence, opposition and optimism, guided by the spirit of each individual participant and the community.
On 18 February 2017, the project relocated to a wall outside the El Rey Theater in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
On 8 March 2017, the project moved to an undisclosed location in Tennessee. A hand-sewn flag emblazoned with the words "HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US" would be flown for the duration.
On 10 March 2017, the flag was stolen in a midnight raid carried out by members of neo-Nazi group, the Traditionalist Worker Party.
On 22 March 2017, the Foundation for Art and Creative Technology in Liverpool, UK, adopted the project.
On 16 October 2017, Le Lieu Unique in Nantes, France, adopted the project.
On 24 October 2017, the artwork was targeted by a drone attack in an attempted arson carried out at Le Lieu Unique by far-right activists.
On 8 June 2018, the work was installed in its original format at Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, Poland, for the exhibition 'Peer-to-Peer. Collective Practices in New Art' until 28 October 2018.
On 29 October 2018, the stream returned to Le Lieu Unique, where it remained until the conclusion of the artwork at 12:00 pm EST on 20 January 2021.
On 14 April 2021, after a four-year investigation, the flag stolen by neo-Nazis was recovered by the FBI and returned to the artist.
On 8 November 2023, the artist won a landmark High Court victory against two neo-Nazi conspiracy theorists in a case centred around antisemitism and online abuse stemming from HEWILLNOTDIVIDE.US.
